Kyu Chang Lee, Hun Jae Lee
Department of Neurosurgery, Yonsei University College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea.
ABSTRACT
The author analyzed 67 cases of internal carotid artery aneurysm surgically treated in the Department of Neurosurgery, Yonsei University, from January 1965 to September 1977. Of the 67 cases, 27 cases were operated on utilizing the surgical microscope. The low morbidity and mortality rates are partially related to patient selection but also significantly influenced by surgical technique made possible by the microscope and microsurgical instrumentation. It is suggested that microsurgery should be standard procedure for surgical management of the internal carotid artery aneurysms.
